Construction
House construction begins with proper planning, which includes deciding your budget, selecting a suitable plot, and verifying all legal documents such as land ownership and approvals from local authorities. After that, an architect or engineer is hired to design the house layout, ensuring proper room arrangement, ventilation, natural lighting, drainage, and optionally Vastu principles. Then comes the structural design, where the strength of the foundation, columns, beams, and slabs is calculated. The construction work starts with site cleaning and layout marking on the ground. Excavation is done for the foundation, followed by laying PCC (plain cement concrete) and constructing the footings. Columns are then built to support the entire structure. After that, plinth beams are constructed and the base is filled and leveled. Brickwork or blockwork is done to build walls, leaving spaces for doors and windows. Lintel beams are added above openings to distribute the load. Finally, roof slab construction is carried out using reinforcement and concrete. At this stage, the basic structural framework, also known as the “grey structure,” is completed.
After the structure is complete, finishing work begins with plastering, which smooths the walls and prepares them for painting. Electrical wiring and plumbing are installed within the walls, including switches, sockets, water supply lines, drainage pipes, and bathroom fittings. Flooring is then done using materials like tiles, marble, or granite depending on budget and preference. Doors and windows are installed, which may be made of wood, aluminum, or UPVC. Next comes wall putty and painting, giving the house its final appearance. The kitchen is set up with cabinets, countertops, sink, and chimney, while bathrooms are fitted with tiles, sanitary ware, and fixtures. Exterior finishing includes painting or cladding to protect the building from weather. Additional elements like water tanks, septic systems or sewer connections, rainwater drainage, and boundary walls are also completed. In the final stage, cleaning, inspection, and touch-ups are done to fix any defects. The house is then ready for occupancy. Throughout the process, using quality materials, skilled labor, and proper supervision is essential to ensure the house is strong, safe, and long-lasting.
